Instruments

To use your instrument:

  • Equip your instrument by either double clicking on it from your inventory window, or by typing \equip <instrument name>.

  • Type /use ? to get a list of commands for your instrument. Commands are identical for all instruments.

    • /use /tempo <number> <notes>: Begin playing music; the tempo number must be from 60 to 180 (note that the @<number> tempo command supersedes the /tempo switch, so you only need one or the other. Using @ is recommended -- see the Writing Music section for details).

    • /use /stop: Stop playing music.

    • /use /part <notes>: This allows a larger piece of music to be played in smaller segments. The size of the Clan Lord text buffer is 512 characters, so if you have a song that longer than that you will need to divide it into smaller segments.

      • You may have up to five segments in a song
      • The division of the segments must be sequential
      • You may split a loop and chords across a /part:

        /use /part (abc
        /use /part defg)2

        or

        /use /part [=ce
        /use /part g/c]8\c8

        are acceptable uses of /part.

      • The final segment to be played does not include the /part switch

        Wrong:
        /use /part aaaa
        /use /part bbbb
        /use /part cccc
        /use /part dddd
/use /part eeee (The last segment of a song does not include the /part switch)

        Right:
        /use /part aaaa
        /use /part bbbb
        /use /part cccc
        /use /part dddd
/use eeee (Notice: no /part switch in the last segment)

    • /use /with <bard name> [/with <bard name>] <notes>: This will allow a Bard to play with up to two other Bards. The bards’ full names are not necessary, only enough of the beginning to uniquely identify each bard.

    • /use /who <exile's name>: Lists the exile's status within the Bards' Guild (consult the Guild Structure section for an explination of status).

Note that /tempo, /part and /with may be used together. If a Bard were to play a five part trio with Pixy and Blue at a tempo of 130, the commands would look like this:

  1. /use /part /with Blue /with Pixy /tempo 130 <notes for first segment>
  2. /use /part /with Blue /with Pixy <notes for second segment>
  3. /use /part /with Blue /with Pixy <notes for third segment>
  4. /use /part /with Blue /with Pixy <notes for fourth segment>
  5. /use /with Blue /with Pixy <notes for fifth segment>

Remember: the /part switch is always omitted from the last segment of a song.
